One Girl Ambassador
I am passionately involved in the cause of women’s education in less-developed countries such as Sierra Leone and Uganda, as I firmly believe that education is the key to solving many of the world’s problems. As such, I participate in the annual “Do It In A Dress” campaign run by the charity One Girl, and in 2019 was very proud to be an official One Girl Ambassador! My challenge was to ride my bicycle from Melbourne to Adelaide in a school dress, nearly 800 kilometres . This was completed over 10 days in late September to early October, raising $3,483 and awareness of the plight of schoolgirls in Africa who struggle to access education.
Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute
I joined the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute in the summer of 2019–2020 to assist with the marketing for the Ballarat Cycle Classic, a major, local annual charity cycling event raising funds for cancer research.
I signed on again in the 2020–2021 and 2021-2022 summer months to help the Institute with the 2021 and 2022 Ballarat Cycle Classics, a fun and interesting challenge given COVID-19 restrictions. This year marks my third year of volunteering with the Institute.
ENACTUS
I have participated in the local branch of ENACTUS at my university, serving as the Vice President and helping to conceive and coordinate local entrepreneurial projects, such as planting sustainable flora, cleaning up rubbish from local bushland and promoting recycling programs and better environmental awareness.
Ballarat Woodworkers Guild
I love woodworking, leatherwork and other ‘crafty’ pursuits, and am very involved in our local guild of woodworkers as a member of the executive committee and manager of the Guild Website.
